Mauricio Pochettino's men went into the tie off a fine run of form that has seen them win back-to-back league games.

According to the Evening Standard, their meeting with Preston had four different goalscorers, with Armando Broja, Thiago Silva, Sterling, and Enzo Fernandez all finding the back of the net as Chelsea qualified for the next round of the competition.

Sterling gets fans talking

Sterling was Chelsea's third goalscorer in the match, with the former Man City ace making it 3-0 with a free-kick in the 69th minute.

A video shared by ESPN showed the England international find the back of the net with precision, clipping the ball into the top corner, with Woodman, who was in goal for Preston getting nowhere near it.
