  • Liverpool have been cautioned against signing PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe
  • Mbappe is now free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a new club
  • While Real Madrid remain his likely destination, Liverpool have entered the fray

Liverpool received a word of caution from club legend Dietmar Hamann regarding the pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe amid ongoing transfer speculations.

The Reds, currently leading the Premier League log, have been associated with a potential move for Mbappe, who has also been a longstanding target for Real Madrid.

As Mbappe approaches the final six months of his contract with PSG, the Frenchman could potentially depart the Ligue 1 champions this summer if he doesn't extend his deal.

Despite PSG's efforts to convince him to stay, Mbappe previously stated his reluctance to renew his contract, per Al Jazeera, which is set to expire at the end of the 2023–24 season, allowing him to leave Paris as a free agent.

The France captain now has the liberty to engage in pre-contract negotiations with other clubs, with Liverpool emerging as a contender in the discussion.

However, Didi Hamann has expressed hesitations regarding Liverpool's attempt to outpace Madrid in securing Mbappe's services.

“Mbappe to Liverpool? Well, he could potentially sign a contract now. These are reports from France as he is out of contract in the summer.
“There are not many clubs that can afford him. You look at Real Madrid, and they are the most obvious club when you look at the calibre of players they can attract, like [Zinedine] Zidane, or both Ronaldos,” Hamann said (via DAZN) as quoted by Daily Sport.

He clarified that bringing in the 25-year-old would disrupt Liverpool's existing wage framework, yet he promptly acknowledged Mbappe's current status among the elite footballers in the world.

“The issue would be the wage structure, as he’d come in and earn double as much as the rest of the squad, and there is always a risk of upsetting the dynamics within the team.
“Having said that, he is probably the world’s best player at the moment, and it would be great to see him at Liverpool.”

Sports Brief also reported that football fans on social media have dismissed the reports that Kylian Mbappe could be heading for Liverpool when he leaves Paris Saint-Germain.

French journalist Julien Laurens fueled the rumours by mentioning Liverpool as another team that the 25-year-old is interested in while discussing his future on BBC 5 Live Sport.
