Cole Palmer is a man in form.
The England star scored twice and produced an assist as Chelsea secured a 3-2 win over Luton Town on Saturday, December 30.
Palmer was fortunate to benefit from a poor clearance for his first goal as he struck a powerful low shot past the Luton goalkeeper.
The 21-year-old set up Noni Madueke late in the first half, and the young winger smashed home his second goal in as many games.
Palmer then exhibited impressive composure for his team’s third goal, rounding the goalkeeper, beating a defender and slotting home.
At full-time, Palmer spoke to TNT Sports his goal celebration for the first goal.
As he wheeled away in celebration, Palmer cupped his mouth before rubbing himself as if cold. Fans instantly thought he was paying tribute to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, but that was not the case.
According to Palmer, he copied his friend Morgan Rogers, who applied a similar celebration after scoring for Middlesbrough recently.
"My boy did one for Middlesbrough, Morgs, so I told him I'd do it,” he said as quoted by GOAL.com.
Palmer and Rogers rose up the ranks together at Manchester City, but both youngsters left the club in search of bigger playing opportunities.
Chelsea on the ascendancy
Without a doubt, Palmer is one of the most important players for Mauricio Pochettino this season.
His latest heroics ensured the Blues ended 2023 on a high, with two straight league wins in four days.
The former Manchester City star has 12 goal involvements in the Premier League this season, which is an impressive feat from a European point of view. Only Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham has more with 15.
