  • Mamelodi Sundowns arrived as scheduled for their DStv Premiership fixture
  • Their opponents announced hours before kick off that they would not travel
  • The PSL have yet to confirm what steps will be taken against Moroka Swallows

It may have seemed like mockery but it was all procedural.

Mamelodi Sundowns honoured their commitments by arriving at Loftus Stadium as scheduled, ready to take the field when called.

Their opponents were sadly missing after having announced a few hours prior that they would not be playing football until their dispute with management had been resolved.

Moroka Swallows CEO, Sipho Xulu, issued a statement clarifying that a solution was being sought. The statement read:

"Management would like to assure everyone within and outside the club that the process of finding one another will soon be found."

The act of lining up for the fixture was more than fanfare, as it could be the difference between the match being rescheduled and Sundowns being awarded the match and the points.

Masandawana announced their starting line-up as required, then fully kitted, walked on the Loftus pitch and even took a team photo for good measure.

Fans have suggested that because the referees were not present and the game did not kick off, Sundowns will not be able to claim the three points.

Chairman of The Dube Birds, David Mogashoa, elaborated on the club's predicament after the match. He told KickOff:

"Unfortunately, the club could not meet the expectations of the players and a dispute ensued. At the time, club management made a decision to request the cancellation of the last two fixtures of the year."

The South African football community eagerly awaits an update from the Premier Soccer League on the way forward and what sanctions may lie ahead for Swallows.

Moroka Swallows Chair claimed strike resolved

Sports Brief recently reported that Moroka Swallows' player strike had been resolved, according to David Mogashoa.

Steve Komphela confirmed after their defeat to SuperSport United that the players had not been training in the week before the match.

The club have come perilously close to extinction before, having gone bankrupt, only to be saved by politician Panyaza Lesufi.
