  • Erling Haaland has been ranked top on the list of 100 best football players in the world of 2023
  • The Manchester City striker helped the club win its historic treble during the year under review
  • Cristiano Ronaldo was not included in this list while Lionel Messi managed a sixth-place finish

Cristiano Ronaldo has been snubbed from the top 100 list of the best football players in 2023.

The Al-Nassr superstar has enjoyed an incredible 2023, having already scored 50 goals across competitions this year for both club and country.

The haul includes three hat-tricks for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, with his 50th goal coming on December 11 against Al-Shabab in the King Cup of Champions.

However, his incredible run was not enough to earn him a spot in FourFourTwo's 100 best players of the year.

Sportbible reports that Ronaldo's football nemesis, Lionel Messi, could only manage a sixth-place finish in the ranking.

The Argentine's ranking came only weeks after he won a record eighth Ballon d'Or award following his 2022 World Cup exploits with Argentina in Qatar.

The veteran forward secured the prestigious crown ahead of Manchester City hotshot, Erling Haaland.

Who made list of 100 best players of 2023?

However, Haaland has now got one over the former Barcelona star, with the City ace topping the list of 100 best players of 2023.

The star forward earned the spot after a largely successful year with the English side, whom he helped win a historic European treble.

The Norwegian's goal-scoring streak inspired the Citizens to glory in the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup, and the Premier League.

Haaland's former Borussia Dortmund teammate, Jude Bellingham has been placed second in the ranking ahead of Bayern Munich star, Harry Kane.

Paris Saint-Germain ace, Kylian Mbappe has been ranked fourth for this year while Man City midfielder, Rodri completed the top-five podium.
