Manchester United fans have expressed disappointment and frustration with Sofyan Amrabat following his lacklustre display against Liverpool on December 17.

Despite Erik ten Hag's team securing a commendable 0-0 draw at Anfield, the Moroccan midfielder's performance has drawn a lot of criticism.

The 27-year-old, on loan from Fiorentina, played the full 90 minutes but struggled throughout, being unable to make any real impact for the Red Devils.

Notable statistics highlighted a passing accuracy of only 57 per cent, one duel won out of eight, and 16 losses of possession, per SofaScore.

Ex-Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, commenting on the match for Sky Sports, bluntly stated that Amrabat couldn’t keep up during his vulnerable performance, questioning the decision to include him in the lineup.

The Reds legend also expressed confusion about the system Man United were playing and questioned the Moroccan's suitability with this style.

"I don't know why they're playing a man-to-man system. He can't run," Carragher said as reported by The Mirror.

Amrabat's lack of pace has been a subject of discussion since his arrival at Man United in September and a booking in the 35th minute fuelled further scrutiny of ten Hag's tactical choices.

Despite his solid performances for Morocco during the 2022 World Cup, his time at Old Trafford has been marked by a lack of contribution in terms of goals or assists in 17 appearances this season.

Fans slam Amrabat for uninspiring effort

The frustration among fans was evident on social media, with many calling for his return to Fiorentina after the conclusion of his loan spell.

Various supporters took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their discontent.

One user, @UtdEllis, suggested:

"I’d send Amrabat back to Fiorentina in January tbh…"

SockCouncil wrote:

"Amrabat looked so good for Morocco and Fiorentina, then you see him play for Manchester United and he's rotten. How!?"

Amrabat's loan deal with Man United includes an option to buy of €20.5 million, with the club having already paid €10mil for the midfielder’s loan until June.

When Amrabat said he could play anywhere

Sports Brief previously reported that Amrabat said he could play any position on the pitch for Man United even if it meant between the sticks.

He was deployed in the left-back role in the EFL Cup clash against Crystal Palace in September, as ten Hag tested his versatility for the team.

The Red Devils won 3-0 thanks to goals from Alejandro Garnacho, Casemiro, and Anthony Martial, but Amrabat is yet to prove himself worthy.
