Ronald Araujo has undoubtedly developed into one of Europe’s finest central defenders since bursting onto the scenes with Barcelona in 2019.

The Uruguayan defender, often instrumental in thwarting formidable attacking opponents for the Catalan club, has become a subject of transfer interest from several top-tier teams.

Among these suitors is Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich. According to a report by Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg, discussions between the Bundesliga club's hierarchy, coach Thomas Tuchel, and Araujo took place over a phone call on December 8th, exploring the possibility of the Uruguayan making a move to the Allianz Arena either in the winter transfer window or the summer market.

Tuchel on Araujo’s transfer

However, Tuchel addressed the reported phone call during a post-match conference following Bayern's disappointing 5-1 defeat to underperforming Eintracht Frankfurt.

Amid a barrage of questions about his team's lacklustre performance, Tuchel faced inquiries about Araujo and the alleged conversation with the 24-year-old.

In response, the 50-year-old, as reported by @iMiaSanMia, offered a clever retort, stating,

"I won’t comment on that in any direction. We only talk about our players - I also spoke to my mother on the phone and there were no reports of it."

Tuchel's reply seems geared towards downplaying Bayern Munich's interest in Araujo. However, considering the Bundesliga giants' numerous central defensive injuries, the report appears plausible.

Barcelona, grappling with financial challenges, may find it challenging to resist the allure of selling one of their standout players, especially since such a sale could have a positive impact on their financial standings.

Bayern thrashed by Eintracht Frankfurt

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Bayern Munich suffered a setback to their title defence, losing their first league game of the season 5-1 in Frankfurt and handing Bayer Leverkusen the chance to open a six-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga.

In a wet and wild contest in Frankfurt, the hosts raced into an extraordinary 3-0 first-half lead, with Omar Marmoush, Junior Dina Ebimbe, and Hugo Larsson scoring the goals as Dino Toppmoeller's side outmuscled a timid Bayern.
