  • The 59-year-old has been without a job since leaving UAE Powerhouse Al-Wahda
  • The South African manager has addressed talks linking him with Sundowns return

Pitso Mosimane has emerged as the most sought-after manager in African football, thanks to his success with Mamelodi Sundowns and, more recently, Egyptian club Al-Ahly.

Despite being without a job since departing from Al-Wahda in November, the 59-year-old has been linked to several teams, including Kaizer Chiefs and Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak.

Recent reports from Goal even connected the former Bafana Bafana manager to the coaching role for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, with support from iconic Nigerian midfielder Jay-Jay Okocha amidst scrutiny faced by the current coach, Jose Peseiro.

Among the various coaching opportunities linked to Mosimane, one standout possibility is a return to his former club, Mamelodi Sundowns. However, Mosimane has addressed the rumours of his return to the Masandawana.

Mosimane on Sundowns return

In a recent interview with iDiski Times, the former Al Ahli manager quizzed about a return to Sundowns stated,

"Sundowns don't have to call me because they're doing exceptionally well. What is the project today?
Maybe the World Cup, yes, but I think they will win the Champions League, and they're just close to it. It's like Man City. Yeah.
They've been trying, trying, they will win it. Ultimately, they'll win it, and they're on the right course. And they'll go to the World Cup. We've been to the World Cup before, and they will do it again."

Mosimane's remarks not only reassure the current manager, Rhulani Mokwena, of job security but also raise expectations for the 36-year-old, who has already set a high standard for himself by winning the African Football League.

The pressure on the Masandawana coach to secure the elusive Champions League title has intensified after missing out on the MTN8 and Carling Knockout, with Sundowns now pressed to win the remaining trophies available.

African clubs that could pay up for Mosimane

Sports Brief also reported that former Sundowns manager, Mosimane remains unattached as a coach as the final weeks of the year count down.

Amid anticipation of the South African taking on a new role in 2024, these are the five African clubs that could afford to bring the veteran on board.
