  • Rulani Mokwena was in high spirits after Mamelodi Sundowns' win over AmaZulu in the PSL
  • The South African coach stylishly hit back at SuperSports United manager Gavin Hunt
  • The Masandawana extended their record to 10 consecutive wins in the PSL this season

Mamelodi Sundowns manager Rulani Mokwena has jokingly hit back at SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt after his team's 1-0 win over AmaZulu in the DStv Premiership.

Lucas Ribeiro Costa's first-half goal from the penalty spot earned the Masandawana the deserved win over the Heroes at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Brazilians' win over AmaZulu extends their unbeaten run in the league, which means they have won all their ten games this season.

Sundowns forward Themba Zwane produced a stellar performance against the Amaqhawe, and it deservedly earned him the Man of the Match award.

After the game, Mokwena, during his post-match interview with SuperSport TV, shared some light-hearted banter about him not being able to hug Zwane after being named the Man of the Match, according to a report by iDiskiTimes.

The Sundowns coach's joke about not being able to hug Zwane was in reference to Hunt's claims of him not being a fan of managers hugging their players.

"I am not allowed to give hugs to players," the Brazilians' manager said
“Congratulations to the entire Mamelodi Sundowns family, the supporters, the amazing turnout for a mid-week game, congratulations to this group of players – they work really hard and the technical team and the entire football club."

Mokwena to step out of Mosimane's shadow

Sports Brief also previously reported on Sundowns coach, Mokwena needing to win the CAF Champions League to silence all doubters.

Masandawana may have won the league six times in a row but winning the continental trophy will still serve as his marker of success.

Mokwena wants to end any comparisons with Pitso Mosimane, with Sundowns not winning the CAF Champions League since back in 2016.
