Manchester City vs. Urawa Reds Preview

Form Guide

The Urawa Reds booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup after beating Mexican side Club Leon 1-0 on Friday at the Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium.

Dutch forward Alex Schalk starred for the 2022 AFC Champions League winners in the victory, scoring the game's lone goal in the 78th minute, per BeinSports.

He gave Urawa the lead just five minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Things went from bad to worse for Club Leon in the 84th minute when William Tesillo picked up his second yellow card.

With Friday's victory, the Reds have now won three of their last four games in all competitions.

Manchester City are coming off a 3-2 win over Crvena zvezda in the Champions League, helping them sweep the group with six victories.

They have struggled in the Premier League, though, winning just one of their past six league fixtures. They were held by Crystal Palace to a 2-2 draw on Saturday.

Team News

The main concern for Manchester City now is the injury situation of star striker Erling Haaland.

According to manager Pep Guardiola, he is being assessed daily as he recovers from a foot injury.

He has already been declared out of Saturday's match against Crystal Palace, with City hoping that he will be fit for the Club World Cup games, per the BBC.

The good news for City is that Haaland is not dealing with a fracture. He is an integral part of City's attack, leading the Premier League with 14 goals scored this season.
