  • Stellenbosch FC play in their first-ever cup final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday
  • TS Galaxy have one cup win under their belts having triumphed in the Nedbank Cup in 2019
  • Carling Black Label have stated that there are no small teams in the Carling Knockout Cup

All teams could be considered small in their early days.

Stellenbosch FC have been in existence for seven years after reimagining Vasco de Gama FC while Tim Sukazi founded The Rockets back in 2015.

Sukazi's men earned their first trophy within four years and they stand in the way of The Maroons as they look to register their first cup triumph.

Both teams are looking to shatter the perception that one of the 'Big 3' needs to participate in order to make a final worth watching.

Carling Black Label's marketing guru, Shaveer Badul has shrugged off any suggestion that the final will be anything but a blockbuster. As quoted by iDiskiTimes, Badul said:

“There are no small teams in the final. It is a knockout tournament, it is anyone’s game on the day. If these two teams made it to the final, congratulations to them.”

TS Galaxy will be looking to add to their trophy cabinet and captain Mlungisi Mbunjana knows the past means very little. Speaking to IOL, he said:

“We are a whole different squad. It’s a whole new group that wants to achieve something and write their own history."

Stellenbosch coach, Steve Barker has a list of memorable moments and could be 90 minutes away from a crowning victory. In a statement released by StellenboschFC, Barker said:

"There have been some really special games but there have been none where we played on the day to win the trophy, and I think that makes this a very special occasion and a very special match for the club.”
