According to All Africa, Osimhen, recently crowned as the 2023 Africa Player of the Year, is confident the Super Eagles are raring to go and have the capacity to defeat other top teams to the AFCON title.

"We are ready and preparing very well. The squad is in high spirits. We are raring to go and hope that we shall do well there."

Nigeria have been drawn in Group A with hosts Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau.

Super Eagles among AFCON favourites

Meanwhile, Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has backed Osimhen’s claims by also stating Nigeria is among the favourites for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Daily Post reports.

After listing the likes of Tunisia, Morocco, Senegal, Cameroon, and Ivory Coast, he believes his team comes next in line to fight for the title due to the quality of the players in his team.

The Portuguese manager, however, acknowledged that the Super Eagles will have to be at their best to stand any chance of upstaging the rest to win their fourth AFCON title.
