It has been quite a week for 2023 CAF African Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen.

On Monday, December 11, he had to be in Marrakech, Morocco, for the awards gala and then needed to be in Italy the next day. He reportedly needed to use a private jet to get around quickly.

The Nigerian striker beat Mohamed Salah and Achraf Hakimi to scoop the top award. In the process, he became the first Nigerian since Nwankwo Kanu in 1999 to win the award, per CAF.

After the ceremony, Osimhen had to get back to Italy to prepare for their UEFA Champions League clash against Portuguese side, Braga. They won thanks to an own goal and the Nigerian's first goal since October, per Supersport.

The win also saw Napoli snap a six-match winless streak at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Since he was probably tired from all that travel, Osimhen played around 70 minutes before he was replaced.

It is possible the Super Eagles ace took the private jet just after the awards ceremony, according to a video posted on Facebook.

It was a busy week for the new African Player of the Year. The 24-year-old and Napoli have four games left in 2023, and they'll be looking to end the year on a high following a difficult start to the season.

Osimhen to sign new Napoli deal?

According to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, Osimhen is nearing a new contract with Italian champions, Napoli. The deal will reportedly have a release clause of €130 million.

The 24-year-old forward scored 26 goals last season, helping the Neapolitans end their 33-year wait for the Scudetto and also becoming the first African to win the league's top scorer's award.

The Nigerian star was reportedly close to leaving the club for other outfits in Europe following a contentious social media storm a few months ago.

CAF Awards 2023: all the winners

Sports Brief also previously compiled a report on all the winners from the 2023 CAF Awards on Monday night, with Osimhen taking the top men's prize.

Nigeria was the biggest winner of the event, with the West African nation claiming numerous individual and team prizes at the awards in Marrakesh.
