Man United's 2023-24 Champions League exit

There’s no topping United’s early exit in the 2023-24 season when it comes to worst performances in the Champions League for the Red Devils.

They finished their campaign in Group A with just four points, the fewest United has scored in the group stages in their Champions League history.

Contributing to that woeful performance was their horrendous defence. They allowed 15 goals in their six matches in Group A, the most by an English club in the group stages in Champions League history, per Goal.com.

With their 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich at Old Trafford on Tuesday, they became the first United team to suffer four defeats in the Champions League group stage.

They lost to Bayern, Galatasaray, and Copenhagen before the final group match.

The 2023-24 campaign brought back painful memories for United fans as that was similar to the way their tournament unfolded in the 2005-06 season of the Champions League.

The Red Devils failed to get out of the group stage, finishing bottom of Group D with just six points.

They crashed out of the Champions League after losing 2-1 to Benfica on the road in their final group match.

Paul Scholes gave United a dream start with a goal in the sixth minute. Benfica responded, though, scoring twice in the first half to send the Red Devils packing.

United’s attack was to blame for their early exit, mustering just three goals in their six group matches.

IFK Goteborg and Barcelona booked their spots in the quarter-finals after claiming the top two spots in the group.

United’s CL collapse in 2020-21 season

Manchester United’s early exit in the 2020-21 Champions League season will live long in the memory of their supporters.

The Red Devils looked to have a berth in the round of 16 locked up after winning three of their first four group matches.

United suffered a shocking collapse, however, losing their last two matches against Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig to drop from first to third in the standings.
