  • Vincent Kompany says the striker is in good hands but cannot pin down a return date
  • Burnley are facing a major battle to avoid dropping back down to the Championship

The early season highs have given way to a lengthy winter trough.

Lyle Foster's situation at Burnley is said to be improving but fans are no closer to knowing when they might be able to see the South African in action again.

The 23-year-old Bafana Bafana striker was in outstanding form before unceremoniously removing himself from the Premier League spotlight.

Coach, Vincent Kompany has provided a positive update on the player and the club's situation, as they look to dig themselves out of a relegation trench.

Burnley hammered fellow strugglers, Sheffield United 5-0 at the beginning of December but have since lost away to Wolves and threw away a lead at Brighton.

Speaking on the condition of Foster, Kompany was quoted by SoccerLaduma as saying:

"Lyle is making good progress. I just know he is getting good care and he is in a better place than he was four weeks ago. I'm hopeful it won't be too long before he's able to come help us again."

Asked about the need to seek reinforcements if they wish to maintain their Premier League status, FARPost quoted the Burnley boss' sentiments as follows:

"We don’t have limited resources but if we can find a way to improve the squad drastically, we will do that."

With just two wins from 16 games, Burnley are five points off Everton who they play next, before closing out 2023 against Fulham, Liverpool and, Aston Villa.

Lyle Foster's value confirmed

Sports Brief reported earlier in the season about Lyle Foster signing a new contract at Burnley.

The five-year deal displayed the confidence the club has in him to remain at Turf Moor until 2028.
