  • Manchester United lost 3-0 to AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford
  • Captain Bruno Fernandes picked up his fifth yellow card of the season
  • The Red Devils play archrivals Liverpool next in the Premier League

Bruno Fernandes compounded Manchester United’s woes in their 3-0 loss to AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford by picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.

United came into the game off the back of a dominant 2-1 victory over Chelsea to maintain their 10-year unbeaten run against Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Chelsea Academy graduate Dominic Solanke opened the scoring with a brilliant backheel goal off Lewis Cook’s cross after Sofyan Amrabat and Harry Maguire’s misplaced passes.

Philip Billing and Marco Sensei scored the other goals in the second half. Bournemouth had a goal disallowed after Dango Ouattara was adjudged to have touched the ball.

Fernandes to miss Liverpool clash

Next for Erik ten Hag’s side in the Premier League is a trip to Anfield to face rivals, Liverpool, at the same ground they were whitewashed 7-0 last season.

They will be without their captain Bruno Fernandes Fernandes after the Portuguese midfielder picked up his fifth yellow card of the season for protesting to the referee after he waved a penalty call on Marcus Rashford and is suspended.

In midweek comes the final group game of the UEFA Champions League group stage against Bayern Munich, who were also beaten in their German Bundesliga 5-1 by Eintracht Frankfurt.

United will have to beat Bayern to boost their chances of making it out of the group.
