As spotted by Sky Sports, the fans displayed a banner while the players were warming up, spurring them to action with the recent performances undeserving of match-going fans.
"Play like you mean it," the banner reads.
Though United won, the performance was far from convincing and inspiring as they struggled to keep up with the game's pace and only relied on a moment of individual brilliance.

The Scotland international claimed the players saw the banner and reacted.
"We saw the banner before the game. A few of us said the fans pay good money to come and watch us every week, and their support is relentless every single week, so we just want to repay them the best we can," he told TNT Sports.
