Brentford and Cameroon winger Bryan Mbuemo is set to spend time on the sidelines after picking a 'bad' injury during an English Premier League game against Brighton.

The 24-year-old, who is Brentford's top scorer this season, netted his seventh of the campaign before limping off at the Falmer Stadium.

According to manager Thomas Frank, the injury is serious and Mbuemo could be out for several weeks.

"It is bad. He'll have a scan later, but we don't know the exact number of weeks he will be out," he said in the post-match presser.
"He will definitely not play on Saturday [against Sheffield United]," he added.

Meanwhile, the player will undergo further tests to determine the exact problem as he begins his recovery process.

This means he will not be part of Cameroon's preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations which begins early next month.

Cameroon have been drawn in Group C of AFCON 2023 and will face Guinea, Senegal and The Gambia, as reported by Channels TV.

The five-time African champions will be hoping the winger recovers in time for the opener against Guinea.

Eto'o in talks with Mbappe over nationality switch

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Cameroon Football Federation president Samuel Eto'o has reportedly convinced Ethan Mbappe, the younger brother of PSG star, Kylian Mbappe, to play for the Indomitable Lions.

Ethan has the option of playing for either Algeria or France, but it seems the teen sensation is leaning towards his Cameroonian heritage.

Having lost Mbappe to France, Eto'o wants to make sure FECAFOOT does not repeat the same mistake twice, especially with the PSG star becoming a key play for Les Bleus.

Cameroon draw in Group C at AFCON 2023

Sports Brief also reported that the AFCON draw was held in Abidjan on Thursday evening, with Nigeria facing the host nation while South Africa got drawn in Group E alongside Mali.

The 24 teams that qualified for the tournament got to know their opponents for the biggest football competition in Africa which will be held next year.

Top teams like Senegal, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, and Ivory Coast were all in Pot 1, with Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Mali, and Burkina Faso sitting in Pot 2.
