Manchester United vs. Chelsea Preview

Form Guide

Manchester United have lost two of their previous five games in the Premier League, including a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United last Saturday.

Chelsea have won just twice in their last six league matches, including a thrilling 3-2 victory over Brighton last Sunday despite going a man down.

The Red Devils are ninth in the league in points scored at home with 12 points, recording four wins and three losses at Old Trafford this season.

The Blues are eighth in the league in points scored in away matches with 10, recording three wins, one draw, and two losses in their travels this campaign.

Recent Head-to-Head Matchups

Manchester United went unbeaten against Chelsea in the Premier League last season. The Red Devils crushed the Blues 4-1 in their last league meeting at Old Trafford back in May.

Casemiro, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes, and Marcus Rashford scored the goals for United in the rout.

Their other meeting in the English top flight last season ended in a 1-1 draw. They have drawn the most Premier League matches in history with 26, 19 of which were scoring draws.

The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last 10 home league matches against Chelsea. They racked up four wins and six draws during that stretch.

Team News: Will Mount play?

Mason Mount is in a race against time to be fit for Wednesday's clash against Chelsea after he suffered a calf injury before United's win against Everton.

He has struggled since moving to United from Chelsea in a blockbuster £60 million move, with the Englishman yet to record a goal or an assist for the Red Devils this season.

Other players who are injured for United are Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Jonny Evans, Tyrell Malacia, and Amad Diallo, per The Standard.

Another guy who has struggled for Manchester United this season is Marcus Rashford. He has scored just two goals in the league this campaign, a disappointing return from a guy who signed a lucrative contract extension this past summer.

There's good news for Chelsea ahead of Wednesday's match, with captain Reece James and Marc Cucurella set to return to their lineup after serving their respective bans.

Conor Gallagher will miss the match against United, though, after picking up a red card in the win against Brighton.

Keane wants Rashford to lead by example

Sports Brief recently reported on Roy Keane's message to Rashford after United's loss to Newcastle.

The Manchester United legend urged the England international to lead by example after he produced another poor display last Saturday.

Fans and pundits blasted Rashford over the weekend for his lack of effort against the Magpies.
