Bayern Munich Chief Wants Thomas Muller to Retire at Bundesliga Club
- Herbert Hainer is hopeful Thomas Muller will remain at Bayern Munich
- The German forward has dropped down in the pecking order at Allianz Arena
- Muller’s contract with Bayern Munich is set to expire in 2024
Thomas Muller’s future at Bayern Munich remains uncertain but the club’s president, Herbert Hainer is hopeful the German international will extend his stay with the Bundesliga champions.
The 34-year-old forward has found games difficult to come by this season, after dropping down the pecking order since the arrival of England forward Harry Kane this summer.
According to Bulinews, Bavarian president Hainer is convinced Muller will not walk away from the reigning Bundesliga champions when his contract expires, as he would love to see him retire in a Bayern shirt.
"Thomas is an absolute Bayern icon and a player with great merits here. We all want him to finish his career in Munich. We're in talks, I'm optimistic and hope he will stay with us.
"I think Thomas knows what he has at Bayern and we know what we have in him. As I said, I would like him to retire here and take on another role at Bayern after he retires, because he's a legend here."
Muller, whose current contract with Bayern Munich expires in 2024, has scored just five goals and created two assists in 15 appearances this season.
Muller urged to leave Bayern
Meanwhile, Germany legend Lothar Matthaus has urged Thomas Muller to quit Bayern Munich if he wants to get more game time after being sidelined for most of the season, GOAL reports.
Matthaus advised the 34-year-old forward to consider a life outside of Munich having played the entirety of his professional career with the reigning Bundesliga champions.
Manchester United are one of the clubs rumoured to be interested in signing Muller at the end of the season although Matthaus would love to see the Germany international move to the MLS.
