Thomas Muller’s future at Bayern Munich remains uncertain but the club’s president, Herbert Hainer is hopeful the German international will extend his stay with the Bundesliga champions.

According to Bulinews, Bavarian president Hainer is convinced Muller will not walk away from the reigning Bundesliga champions when his contract expires, as he would love to see him retire in a Bayern shirt.

"Thomas is an absolute Bayern icon and a player with great merits here. We all want him to finish his career in Munich. We're in talks, I'm optimistic and hope he will stay with us.
"I think Thomas knows what he has at Bayern and we know what we have in him. As I said, I would like him to retire here and take on another role at Bayern after he retires, because he's a legend here."

Muller, whose current contract with Bayern Munich expires in 2024, has scored just five goals and created two assists in 15 appearances this season.

Muller urged to leave Bayern

Meanwhile, Germany legend Lothar Matthaus has urged Thomas Muller to quit Bayern Munich if he wants to get more game time after being sidelined for most of the season, GOAL reports.

Matthaus advised the 34-year-old forward to consider a life outside of Munich having played the entirety of his professional career with the reigning Bundesliga champions.

Manchester United are one of the clubs rumoured to be interested in signing Muller at the end of the season although Matthaus would love to see the Germany international move to the MLS.

Thomas Muller makes UCL history

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Bayern Munich legend, Thomas Muller made history on Wednesday night after his team beat Manchester United in their 2023/24 UEFA Champions League opener.

Muller now has 100 wins in the competition - the same number as Real Madrid legends, Cristiano Ronaldo and Iker Casillas.

Bayern raced to a 2-0 lead before Rasmus Hojlund scored one for the Red Devils early in the second half. The hosts scored a few minutes later from the spot through Harry Kane to extend their lead to 3-1.
