FootballAubameyang Silences Critics with Superb Hattrick, Overhead Kick for Marseille
- Football fans were treated to another bicycle kick on Thursday
- It came from former Arsenal man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
- Aubameyang scored a hat trick to help Marseille beat Ajax
Former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang showed critics that he still has it as he scored a sensational hattrick that included an overhead kick on Thursday, November 30.
After an underwhelming season at Chelsea, Aubameyang ended his Premier League stint by moving to France, joining Ligue 1 giants Marseille.
His move to France at age 34 led critics to declare the Gabon international's career was all but finished.
Marseille have been struggling in the league as they sit in 12th place with just three wins from 12 games.
But this has not been the case in the Europa League, as the French club seems to be on a mission.
They are through to the competition's knockout stages, thanks to a thrilling 4-3 victory over Ajax on Thursday, in a game in which Aubameyang stole all the headlines.
Aubameyang’s hattrick
His first goal was from the penalty spot in the ninth minute, but Marseille were pegged back when Brian Brobbey restored parity moments later.
As reported by BBC, Marseille regained their lead through a strike from Chancel Mbemba, but Brobbey levelled matters again with his second goal of the evening on the half-hour mark.
The best moment of the game came in the second half's opening stages as Aubameyang scored an overhead kick from just inside the penalty area.
Unlike Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho, who was ecstatic after scoring an overhead kick four days earlier, Aubameyang’s celebration was pretty calm, almost like he had a point to prove to his critics.
Ajax looked to have salvaged a point as Chuba Akpom made it 3-3, but Aubameyang was not done for the day as he sealed his hat trick with a penalty in stoppage time.

Aubameyang’s backheel assist
In October, Sports Brief also reported on another outrageous moment from Aubameyang, who produced an insane backheel assist against Le Havre.
The Gabon forward was also on the scoresheet as the former French champions strolled to a 3-0 win at the Stade Orange Velodrome.
In a viral video on social media, Ismailla Sarr finished off a cheeky backheel from the Gabon national team captain.
