It appears Manchester United players are setting unwanted stats every week.

On Wednesday, one Manchester United player’s name was in everyone’s mouths for all the wrong reasons after a shambolic performance in the Champions League clash against Galatasaray.

In a game in which United had little to no room for error, they ultimately settled for a point in a contest that was a classic but left a bad taste in Red Devils fans.

And ironically, the 3-3 result against Galatasaray was down to individual errors from United’s Number 1 Andre Onana.

Onana had a night to forget as his goalkeeping mistakes allowed Galatasaray to stay in the game despite United taking a two-goal lead through Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes.

The home side made it 2-1 through Ziyech’s free kick, with questions being asked about Onana’s positioning in the build-up to the goal.

As reported by BBC, Scott McTominay turned in Aaron Wan-Bissaka's cross early in the second half. Still, Galatasaray refused to give in as Ziyech was gifted a second goal from another free kick thanks to Onana’s hapless attempt to stop the shot.

Kerem Akturkoglu made it 3-3 with 19 minutes left, setting up a frantic finish from both sides.

Onana and Man United set bad records

In hindsight, it was the same story for United in the Champions League this season.

Before Wednesday’s game, United let leads slip twice against Copenhagen and the reverse fixture against Galatasaray.

As Rio Ferdinand rightfully put it, it was unique to see a team that had scored the most goals in their group (14) sitting bottom of the pile and in danger of getting knocked out of the competition.

While there is a remote chance of advancing to the last 16, it does not take away the fact that United have the leakiest defence since the 1962/63 season.

According to Opta, the Red Devils have conceded a staggering 33 times across all competitions.

Narrowing it down to Onana, the former Ajax man is also doing horribly in the stats department.

Since the 2018/19 season, Onana has made the most errors (7) directly leading to goals in the Champions League.

This contrasts with Manuel Neuer, who has made just three errors in that time in 41 appearances.

United have to pick themselves up fast as they come up against Newcastle United in their next Premier League game on Saturday, December 2.

Should Ziyech’s goal have stood?

Sports Brief also reported why one of Hakim Ziyech’s goals against United should not have been allowed to stand.

According to football guidelines, opposition players should remain at least one metre from the wall until the ball is in play.

However, it has been claimed that Galatasaray had two players standing just 61 centimetres away, meaning Ziyech's goal should not have stood.
