The spat between Lionel Messi and Rodrigo de Goes has taken a new turn after the latter's father took to Instagram to condemn the Argentina captain.

The two players were involved in a heated altercation on November 22 when Brazil hosted the World Champions at the Maracana Stadium.

The World Cup qualifier started on a sour note after Brazilian police laid into fans a few minutes before kick-off. Argentina players attempted to intervene before Messi ordered them to retreat to the dressing room.

Messi's argument with Rodrygo

After calm had been restored, Rodrygo was seen calling Messi a coward, as captured by TyC Sports. The former Barcelona captain was seen grabbing the Real Madrid forward by the neck before reportedly firing back with:

"We are the world champions; why are we cowards? Watch your mouth."

Rodrygo's father has now taken issue with how Messi grabbed his son.

Last week, the Inter Miami forward was at the centre of another controversy after he held Uruguay player, Matias Olivera by the throat but escaped punishment from the officials, as reported by Sports Brief.

Taking to his Instagram stories, the father of the 22-year-old Rodrygo shared photos of both incidents with a sarcastic caption.

"The saint who does not mess with anyone," he wrote as translated by Madrid Univeral.

The Brazilian star has since stated that he has suffered racist abuse in the wake of his spat with the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner.

The Selecao lost the game by a solitary goal to extend their winless run to four games.

Endrick makes Brazil history

Sports Brief also previously reported on Real Madrid's Endrick Felipe making history with his debut for the Brazilian national team versus Colombia.

The 17-year-old made history as an 82nd-minute substitute for Raphinha. With the act, the Palmeiras star joined an elite club in Brazilian football.

Only Pelé (16 years and 257 days), former Santos winger Edu, and another Santos star - Coutinho, had made their senior debut at a younger age.
