- Jude Bellingham's meteoric rise with the Spanish club has left Modric with very limited game
- The Saudi Pro League is the most likely destination for Modric, whose contract expires next year
Luka Modric could finally be leaving the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium after 12 years.
The Croatian midfielder has won numerous trophies with the Spanish side, but has found his game time limited of late. Jude Bellingham has hit the ground running at the La Liga side, limiting Modric’s chances to play.
Goal has now reported that the former Ballon d’Or winner will leave the Spanish side at the end of the season, when his contract expires.
While nothing has been set in stone yet, the 38-year-old could follow other icons of the game to the Saudi Pro League.
Modric extended his contract last season
Despite Real Madrid signing Bellingham - and Modric’s game time coming under threat - the Croatian midfielder signed a one-year contract extension with the club last season.
Since then, he has only started five of Madrid’s 17 games this season. With the Croatian looking to end his career on his own terms, Saudi Arabia seems the most likely destination.
Modric rejected a previous move
The veteran midfielder previously was linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, as Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad were interested in his services.
However, he rejected a big-money transfer in a bid to remain at Real Madrid.
Modric’s time at Madrid
In addition to his numerous trophies won while with Madrid, Modric has also reached some impressive stats. According to Transfermarkt, he has played 503 games for the side thus far, scoring 37 goals and notching 78 assists.
