After the departure of the legendary centre-back pairing of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic in 2014, Ramos was reportedly the perfect option to replace them.

In the summer of 2015, Sky Sports reported that the Red Devils had made a bid of £28.6 million for the Spanish defender, but a deal never materialized.

Ramos remained at Real Madrid and went on to win three more Champions Leagues with the club before leaving in 2021 after making 671 appearances.

He joined Paris Saint-Germain, where he played for two seasons alongside Neymar, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe. He decided to leave a few months ago and later joined his boyhood club, Sevilla.

Ramos on possible Man United transfer

According to Diario AS, Ramos said he was close to joining the Red Devils, who were looking for another top defender.

"I was close to playing for United. My father is a great fan of that team, but I stayed where I should, Real Madrid. Despite everything, I maintain my admiration for the club, for the Premier League."

The English giants struggled to get reliable centre-backs after Ferdinand and Vidic left and are yet to fill the void those two legends left.

Ramos is 37, and injuries have hampered his career in the last few years. He will retire as one of the most decorated centre-backs of all time. Apart from four Champions Leagues, he also won the World Cup and the European Championship with Spain.

Ramos squares off with Rudiger

During Sergio Ramos's highly anticipated reunion with Real Madrid, a notable clash ensued between him and Antonio Rudiger on the field, Sports Brief reported.

The game between Madrid and Sevilla marked a meeting between two intense football competitors. Amidst heightened expectations of a fiery encounter, Ramos's aggressive approach did not yield the typical reaction.

Despite the confrontational atmosphere, Rudiger opted for an unconventional response, meeting Ramos's aggression with unexpected laughter, a reaction that took many by surprise.
