FootballKylian Mbappe Responds to the Possibility of Winning UEFA Champions League Title With PSG
- The UEFA Champions League title remains an elusive crown for Paris Saint-Germain
- Despite their increased transfer activities, PSG have failed to clinch the coveted title
- Kylian Mbappe has spoken about his team's chances of winning the UCL this season
Paris Saint-Germain's relentless pursuit of their maiden UEFA Champions League title hit a significant setback following their defeat to seven-time UCL champions, AC Milan.
The Parisian club, who had cruised to a 3-0 victory in the reverse fixture, seemed poised to secure a double win over Stefano Pioli's team after Slovenian defender, Milan Skriniar opened the scoring just nine minutes into the match.
However, a stunning overhead kick from Portuguese forward, Rafael Leao brought AC Milan level.
As reported by ESPN, French forward, Olivier Giroud later sealed the win for Milan with a textbook header in the 50th minute.
This loss marked PSG's second in four games and caused them to slip to second place in the group standings behind Borussia Dortmund.
The fixtures do not come any easier for the Parisians as they face off against Newcastle United, who thumped them 4-0 in the reverse meeting, as well as highflying Dortmund.
PSG's struggle to assert their dominance in the group, despite the flurry of signings made by the club in the summer, led to awkward questions for Kylian Mbappe on whether the UCL was a bridge too far for the French champions.
Mbappe on PSG winning the UCL
When asked about PSG's chances of winning the UCL, the 24-year-old forward and the face of the Parisian club responded with an answer that left even more questions.
As quoted by PSG Report, Mbappe stated:
"The first objective is to win the next match against Newcastle. This is the most important at this moment in time."
PSG outclass Milan to get back on track in Champions League
FootballMbappe's response is being seen as reflecting the growing doubts among the players at the French club regarding their prospects of winning the UCL title this season.
PSG's best performance in the UCL to date was in the 2020 final, where they delivered a lacklustre performance against Bayern Munich, which saw them handed a defeat.
The qualification for the next round won't be any easier for PSG, especially considering the significance of their upcoming clash against Eddie Howe's side, as a defeat for either team would end their title dreams for the season.

Mbappe told to leave PSG
In a previous report, Sports Brief stated that Mbappe was told to leave PSG as it 'hampers his chances' of winning the Ballon d'Or after he lost out this year to his former teammate.
The 24-year-old had a phenomenal year, reaching the World Cup final and also winning the Ligue 1 title with PSG, but finished third overall behind Erling Haaland and Lionel Messi.
