Chelsea’s transfer news: How much money did Chelsea spend this transfer window?
FootballFormer Barcelona Star Ousmane Dembele Speaks on the Story Behind His Transfer to Paris Saint Germain
- Ousmane Dembele recently joined Paris Saint-Germain
- The ex-Barcelona man's transfer appeared to be a surprise to many
- The French forward has opened up on how he joined PSG
The transfer of Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain remains high on the list of football's most unexpected transfers.
The 26-year-old forward was only recently rewarded with a new contract in the summer of 2022 despite experiencing an underwhelming and injury-plagued five years at the Catalan club.
As reported by Marca, Dembele had required the backing of current Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez to get his contract extended at the La Liga club.
However, despite the French forward again failing to reciprocate the trust of the manager with his performances, a transfer out of Barcelona appeared unheard of.
Nonetheless, Dembele surprised many at the club's hierarchy when reports of PSG triggering his reported €50 million release clause emerged.
However, after securing what he has now dubbed his 'dream' move, the 2018 World Cup winner has spoken on how his transfer to the Ligue 1 club unfolded.
Dembele on his PSG transfer
The former Borussia Dortmund star, who completed a record €145mil transfer to Barcelona in the summer of 2017, recently sat in an interview with French outlet L'Equipe.
Dembele touched on numerous topics, including his transfer to the French Capital.
Quoted by PSG Report, when asked about how his move to the Ligue 1 club unfolded, he responded:
"How did I end up at PSG? PSG and Nasser Al-Khelaïfi had been interested for a long time. Already, when I was in Dortmund, we started to have our first contacts.
At that time my goal was to play for Barça. There were contacts in 2019 too, then this summer. The president showed again that he really wanted to sign me. I then spoke with the coach and Luis Campos. I immediately liked the project."

FootballThe forward subsequently touched on how he got his mind changed:
"I told myself that I was going to stay in Barça. It was the contacts with PSG that made me want to leave Barça. I wanted to sign for PSG. It was more PSG that changed my mind than simply leaving Barcelona."
While Dembele might have got his dream move back to his home club, things appear not to be all rosy for the forward on the field of play.
The PSG star is currently nursing one of the longest goal droughts of his career, as the last time Dembele found the back of the net in a competitive fixture was during Barcelona's 1-nil victory in the Copa Del Rey away at Real Sociedad on January 25th.

FootballMbappe trolls PSG teammate Dembele
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Dembele's difficulty in scoring goals has occasionally made him the target of trolling from fans on social media. However, his teammate Kylian Mbappe took this trolling to another level during a viral interview at an event.
During the event organised by the OneSight foundation, which aims to provide eye tests for 1,000 underprivileged children, Mbappe humorously suggested that Dembele might need glasses to improve his scoring ability.
