  • Pitso Mosimane has been talked about by many clubs and analysts as a wanted problem-solver
  • Clubs in Africa are clamouring for a dedicated leader who has the proven ability to win trophies
  • Mosimane may have long-term European aspirations but he may need to make a few stops first

The fine line between stagnation and opportunity is timing. The lure of possibilities elsewhere and his resignation have made Pitso Mosimane a popular name circling the rumour mill.

Managerial vacancies at big clubs and a desire to see the veteran South African tactician elevated to new heights have fans enthusiastic about what could happen for him next.

Al Wahda had won their last two matches but reports of team selection interference brought an early end to Mosimane's time in the United Arab Emirates.

Now that he is a free agent, the imagination runs wild at the possibilities. Sports Brief considers the best hypotheticals around Mosimane's next move.

Possible destinations for Mosimane after Al Wahda

1. Egypt's fashionable icons

The latest club to have been linked with Mosimane's services, Zamalek parted ways with Juan Carlos Osorio in early November.

Egypt will be no stranger to the South African but he may not wish to tarnish the loving admiration he receives from Al Ahly fans.

Mosimane has conquered the Egyptian league before and may prefer a fresher challenge instead of retreading old haunts.

2. The Glamour choice

The preferred destination for the legion of adoring South African fans wanting to see the battle between master and apprentice.

Masandawana fans' treatment of Mosimane on his return to South Africa with Al Ahly may throw any reputational sentiment in the trash and give him the needed motivation.

One feels it would require the perfect mix of circumstances to bring 'Jingles' home early - before he has had a chance to conquer the world.

3. A sleeping European giant?

Benni McCarthy blazed a trail for African coaches in the Premier League, even if it was only as an assistant. If Erik ten Hag's woes escalate, Manchester United may look at themselves as market-leading progressive thinkers.

Reuters reports that Ajax Amsterdam have appointed an interim coach who will move into an administrative role once a permanent option is sourced. The window is wide and the club has shown an affinity for South Africans.

However, the Dutch giants have stubbornly reserved the top job for their own and the toxic United fanbase may not be ready for such an appointment, but the Red Devils have done stranger things.

4. The Land of the Free?

Major League Soccer could provide Mosimane with a recognised platform to win over recruiters back across the Atlantic.

Both Minnesota United and DC United have vacancies that may only be filled in the MLS off-season and at Minnesota, Bongokuhle Hlongwane will give Mosimane that home-like feel.

There is a growing South African presence in the MLS and with the language barrier no issue, as well as little to lose in Minneapolis, it could certainly be the required step up.

5. The lure of Arabian riches?

One Riyadh-based club is eagerly looking to regain their crown. Al-Shabab are six-time Saudi champions and seven-time domestic cup winners, as well as winning various continental competitions.

They recently made former Liverpool midfielder, Igor Biscan their new boss but the club have had over 20 managers in the last 13 years, pointing to hair-trigger decision-makers.

The possibility of restoring a legacy club to the top spot, while working with and against the talent the league is promising to pull in the coming seasons, could prove an enticing offer.

Why Mosimane walked away from Al Wahda

Sports Brief previously reported on the reason why Pitso Mosimane left his position at Al Wahda.

The UAE club's fortunes looked to be improving but the coach had struggled to implement ideas.

The reason will indicate to any future employers how Mosimane wishes to achieve his ambitions.
