The 2023-24 La Liga season has delivered fans a captivating blend of excitement and joy. Numerous surprising and scarcely anticipated developments have ushered in the season, leaving many eagerly awaiting what the crucial phase of the campaign has in store for Spanish league enthusiasts.

From the remarkable debut of Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham to the outstanding performances of former Los Blancos player Isco Alarcon, the Spanish league consistently lives up to its reputation.

While the allure of Bellingham and Isco has captivated many, Catalan club Girona have quietly ascended to the league's summit.

The Montilivi-based club returned to the top flight just last season after spending three years in the second tier, per a report from The Guardian.

Under the guidance of Miguel Angel Sanchez Munoz, commonly known as Michel, the Albirojos have achieved the best start to a top-flight campaign in their 85-year history.

With only one loss and one draw in their initial 12 matches of the season, Michel's team sits on 31 points, two points ahead of their nearest challengers, Real Madrid.

Despite their impressive run of form, Girona appear somewhat surprised to be leading the league table and have taken to TikTok to celebrate this accomplishment.

Girona celebrate leading La Liga

The Catalan club posted a video titled "Lone Leaders of La Liga," which showcases the current La Liga standings as a backdrop and features a man dancing. The hilarious video did not fail to trigger a flurry of reactions.

@kevinalarcon949, showing support, commented:

"Vamos Girona."

@adilov, finding humour in the video, posted:

"Good luck 👍😂."

@ahmed expressed a wish:

"I wish you to win La Liga this season; it will be goated."

@Coentrao raised the Leicester comparison:

"Doing a Leicester?"

@idk, sceptical of the congratulatory tone, commented:

"Good for Girona, but they are going to start losing games and then going to drop to like mid-table. They aren't a good enough team to battle until the end."

While how long Girona will stay at the top of La Liga remains uncertain, it's worth acknowledging the remarkable achievement of the Catalan club, considering their limited financial resources compared to many other Spanish clubs.

Girona seal comeback against Osasuna

In a previous report, Sports Brief stated that Girona produced a brilliant comeback to beat Osasuna 4-2 in a thriller on Saturday and provisionally move top of La Liga.

The Catalan minnows' Ukrainian duo Artem Dovbyk and Viktor Tsygankov's goals helped Girona triumph from 2-1 down to move three points ahead of Real Madrid, who faced Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

Ivan Martin sent the visitors ahead but Osasuna striker, Ante Budimir netted twice to turn the game on its head before Dovbyk and Tsygankov intervened and Aleix Garcia made the game safe in stoppage time.
