  • Manchester United scrapped a one-goal win over Fulham at Craven Cottage
  • Bruno Fernandes' late strike gave the Red Devils all three points away from home
  • The fans sent a wake-up message to the players during their warm-up before the game

Manchester United fans sparked a response from their players by sending a stern message through a banner displayed while the players were warming up for the game.

United have had their worst start to the season since 1930, losing five of their last 10 home games and, in total, have lost eight games this season in all competitions.

The Red Devils lost back-to-back home games with a 3-0 scoreline to Manchester City in the derby and Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

Starman Marcus Rashford missed out on today's game due to a knock he picked up in training, clearing speculations he was dropped for disciplinary reasons.

United fans send message to players

As spotted by Sky Sports, the fans displayed a banner while the players were warming up, spurring them to action with the recent performances undeserving of match-going fans.

"Play like you mean it," the banner reads.

Though United won, the performance was far from convincing and inspiring as they struggled to keep up with the game's pace and only relied on a moment of individual brilliance.

McTominay responds to United fans

Academy graduate Scott McTominay opened the scoring in the first half, but it was ruled out for offside after Harry Maguire was adjudged offside and interfered with play.

The Scotland international claimed the players saw the banner and reacted.

"We saw the banner before the game. A few of us said the fans pay good money to come and watch us every week, and their support is relentless every single week, so we just want to repay them the best we can," he told TNT Sports.
"Things aren't going the best at the moment, but it's a building block, step-by-step, with the manager and the coaching staff we trust them a lot, we trust the players. I think we can go on and kick on and do better."

Why Rashford missed Fulham game
