Magufuli gift Taifa Stars players parcels of land after AFCON qualification

President John Pombe Magufuli of Tanzania has offered parcels of land to Taifa Stars players and the technical bench after their historic African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification.

Tanzania stunned Uganda 3-0 in their last Group L qualifying match played at the Uhuru Stadium on Sunday, March 24, to seal a place in the continental competition.

Speaking shortly after the gesture, Magufuli admitted he was impressed with the team's performance.

“I have been touched by this team for reaching the Afcon finals and have decided to reward each one of them with pieces of land to build houses,” Goal.com quoted the Tanzanian leader.

This is the first time Tanzania are qualifying for the showpiece in 39 years, making their last appearance in 1980 hosted in Nigeria.

Taifa Stars finished second in Group L with eight points above Lesotho and Cape Verde who were also in contention for qualification.

They now join Uganda, Kenya and Burundi, all who have already qualified for the competition.
