Alejandro Garnacho has been praised after his moment of genius inadvertently led to Andre Onana saving a last-gasp penalty on October 24.

It was another unconvincing performance from Erik ten Hag's side, but they managed to get over the line nonetheless, courtesy of Harry Maguire's header in the second half.

However, all their resilience could have been undone when Scott McTominay conceded a penalty deep into stoppage time.

What Garnacho did against Copenhagen

As the decision was being confirmed, Garnacho was caught scuffling the penalty spot, an action that went unnoticed by match officials. Jordan Larsson then stepped up to take the penalty, which Onana parried away, sparking crazy celebrations at Old Trafford.

Speaking about the incident, ten Hag revealed that he did not see what the Argentine teenager did.

"I didn't see it. The referee probably didn't see it either. I don't know," as quoted by Utd Plug.

Fans online praised the 19-year-old for his actions. @Trujista said;

"Desperate times call for desperate measures; do whatever it takes to win, even if it’s Copenhagen at home."

@wisdomihunwo1 said:

"He did a good job there."

The win takes Manchester United to third place ahead of their return leg against Copenhagen in a fortnight. Bayern Munich maintained their perfect start in the group, beating Galatasaray 3-1 to move to 9 points.

Ozil applauds Onana and Maguire

Sports Brief also reported on how Mesut Ozil applauded Maguire and Onana at full-time after the duo’s heroics in the Copenhagen win.

After their heroics, former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil took to social media and praised the two players:

"Harry Maguire & Andre Onana deserve that - silencing their haters 🤫"
