FootballReal Madrid President Florentino Perez Makes Decision on Attending El Clasico
- Florentino Perez will attend this season’s El Clasico against Barcelona
- The Real Madrid president snubbed last year’s epic match at Camp Nou
- Barcelona will host Real Madrid at Estadio Montjuic on October 28
Florentino Perez will not allow Real Madrid’s off-field issues with rivals Barcelona to prevent him from attending the first El Clasico of the 2023/24 season.
The Real Madrid president snubbed the fixture for the first time since his reign as Los Blancos boss when he did not show up at Camp Nou last season after a fallout with the Catalans' president, Joan Laporta.
Laporta had accused Real Madrid of being the team favoured by former dictator Francisco Franco after news broke of Barcelona’s bribery case, which is still under trial in Spain.
According to Football Espana, Perez is expected to be back in the Director’s Box in Barcelona, although at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys this time, which will be the Catalan club’s new home ground for the next two seasons.
Barcelona will play host to Real Madrid on October 28, the first El Clasico of the 2023/24 season and a match that could see Xavi’s men topple Los Blancos with a win in front of their home supporters.
Perez wants Real Madrid star sold
Meanwhile, Perez is reportedly eager to sell Real Madrid defender David Alaba if a bid of roughly €40 million is made for the Austrian defender next year, per Sportskeeda.
The Real Madrid president, in particular, is apparently very disappointed with the former Bayern Munich defender over his inconsistent performances for Los Blancos this season.
Alaba has made 94 appearances across all competitions since moving to Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in 2021 on a free transfer but has struggled to find his best form this season.
Real Madrid deny Perez resignation
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Real Madrid strongly denied that club president Florentino Perez was set to resign from his position at the club following rumours circulating in the Spanish media.
