  • Federico Valverde has created the most chances in Europe’s top leagues this season
  • The Real Madrid star has created a total of 22 scoring chances from open play
  • Valverde has helped propel the Spanish giants to the top of the La Liga table

Bukayo Saka and Bruno Fernandes are having a good start to the 2023/24 season for Arsenal and Manchester United, respectively, but none can be compared to Federico Valverde.

The 25-year-old midfielder has been instrumental in Real Madrid’s early success this season, overshining the rest of Europe’s midfielders with his amazing stats.

According to football statistics site, OPTA, Valverde has created a total of 22 chances from open play for Real Madrid in La Liga this season, the best stat in Europe’s top five leagues.

Saka has a total of 14 chances created from open play, while Fernandes has been credited with a total of 15 chances per SQUAWKA, as both players are ranked behind the Real Madrid star.

However, Valverde has scored just one goal this season but has contributed immensely in helping Los Blancos to the top of La Liga after nine games this season.

Valverde eyes Real Madrid's captaincy

Meanwhile, Valverde wants to follow in the footsteps of Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric, as the midfielder admitted he dreamed of becoming Real Madrid's captain someday, Khel Now reports.

The 25-year-old claimed that he has already started working with senior Los Blancos players like Toni Kroos and Modric in assisting him to achieve his ultimate goal at the Spanish club.

Since his transfer from Uruguayan team, Penarol in 2018, Valverde has blossomed at the Santiago Bernabeu and has played in over 200 games in various competitions, winning multiple trophies, including the UEFA Champions League.

Valverde open to leaving Real Madrid

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Valverde saying he would leave Real Madrid to seek other options if his levels of performance were to drop.

The midfielder has been a reliable option for the club in the last few years and he scored a spectacular equaliser vs. Real Sociedad on Sunday.

The Uruguayan has played for Real Madrid since the 2018/19 season and has been a vital cog in their successes across all competitions.
