FootballJose Mourinho: Roma Boss Mocks Papu Gomez’s Doping Ban With Savage Response
- AS Roma left it late to beat AC Monza thanks to Stephan El Shaarawy's goal
- Jose Mourinho was sent off in the closing stages of the game for his gesture towards opponent's bench
- The Special One also reserved a savage statement for winger Papu Gomez
Jose Mourinho was in his element against Monza and reminded Papu Gomez never to mess with him after the Argentine's comments on the manager last week.
AS Roma squeezed a late winner against Monza through Stephan El Shaarawy after a spirited performance from their visitors, who played most of the game with ten men.
The Italian forward was emotional after his goal, and he explained the reasons behind his emotions after he was alleged to be involved in the ongoing betting scandal in Italy, which he termed fake.
Mourinho was sent off in the game's closing stages over his gesture and comments towards the Monza bench after Roma's goal, and will miss the game against his former club, Inter Milan.
Mourinho mocks Papu Gomez
Argentina winger Papu Gomez, who played for Sevilla last season, while previewing the game per Roma Press, taunted Mourinho with last season's UEFA Europa League loss.
“Mourinho? I only have one memory of him, and that is winning the Europa League with Sevilla against him a few months ago,” Gomez said.
Those words did not sit well with the Special One, who hit back at Gomez, who was suspended for two years after failing a drug test from last year.
"He didn't play the final against us, but the semi-final against Juventus, and yes, he already knew the positivity. It doesn't concern me," Mourinho said via Corriere dello Sport.
"I have a cough, but I won't take that syrup. Then maybe they'll find me positive," he added.
The 2022 World Cup winner joined Monza as a free agent in the summer but faces possible retirement if his ban is upheld worldwide.
