  • Victor Osimhen helped Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years last season
  • The Nigerian striker also won the Capocannoniere Award with 26 goals
  • Former Arsenal star Folarin Balogun has declared the former Lille man a world-class

Victor Osimhen is getting the accolade he deserves after helping Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years last year under Italian boss Luciano Spalletti.

The Nigerian striker scored 26 goals and provided a further four assists to help the club secure their first title since the 1989/90 Diego Maradona-inspired season.

His teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who chipped in 11 goals and 11 assists, was awarded the league's best player, much to widespread reaction from Nigerians.

There were speculations surrounding his future after the triumphant season, but he stayed at Naples as the club aimed for more glory under new boss Rudi Garcia.

Balogun calls Osimhen world class

There are concerns from Nigerians that their golden boy hardly gets the credit he deserves for his exploits for the Neapolitans last season.

Former Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun, who is of Nigerian descent but represents the United States of America, may have just given the 24-year-old his flowers.

Answering a quick-fire question to ESPN UK, Balogun was asked to name his top three strikers right now, and he listed Erling Haaland, whom he defended that the goals he score are not just tap-ins but an art on their own.

He also named Kylian Mbappe if he counts as a striker because he is very efficient in front of goal. The Monaco striker added Osimhen, whom he said has developed into a world-class striker over the years.

The Hale End graduate could have been in the Italian league competing for the goals with Osimhen if his proposed move to Inter Milan in the summer per Goal was successful, before he joined Monaco.

Osimhen favourite for African best

Sports Brief previously analysed Osimhen as favourite to win African Best award later this year as he leads other contenders for Africa's biggest individual prize.

He helped Napoli win the Scudetto and reach the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club's history.
