FootballBarcelona to Rival Real Madrid for Man City’s Julian Alvarez Next Summer
- Barcelona have joined the queue of teams itching to sign Julian Alvarez
- The Manchester City star is also on the wish list of rival club Real Madrid
- Alvarez has scored six goals in 13 matches for the champions this season
The race to sign Manchester City striker, Julian Alvarez is becoming intense after Barcelona reportedly signified their interest in the 22-year-old forward ahead of next summer’s transfer window.
Alvarez’s profile has skyrocketed tremendously after he played a key role in Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup success, thereby putting him on the wish list of top European clubs.
According to GOAL, Barcelona do not have cover for forward, Robert Lewandowski in their attack at the moment, which has prompted them to turn their attention towards the Man City star.
The Catalans will have to battle for Alvarez’s signature next summer with arch-rivals, Real Madrid, who are also eyeing the Argentina striker as a back-up if their bid for Kylian Mbappe fails.
The Argentine has started this season in great form, scoring six goals in 13 matches for Man City as he continues to outline his importance for the reigning Premier League champions.
Alvarez could have joined Real Madrid
Meanwhile, Alvarez was close to joining Real Madrid as an 11-year-old teenager before the deal for the Argentina striker fell through, causing him to return to his hometown, Tribal Football reports.
The red tape prevented the Argentine from signing for Los Blancos as it meant the 14-time UEFA Champions League winners could have been forced to move his entire family to Spain for the deal to be successful.
Years later, however, Alvarez could get his dream of playing for Real Madrid as the Spanish giants have identified the forward as one of their key targets for next summer’s transfer window.
Alvarez makes history with Man City
