  • Manchester City have beaten Inter Milan 1-0 to win the 2023 UEFA Champions League
  • Spanish midfielder sent a thunderous shot home in the second half to win it
  • Argentine striker Julian Alvarez adds the UCL to his list of honours this season

Manchester City have completed the historic treble after beating Inter Milan 1-0 in the Champions League final thanks to that powerful shot from Rodrigo.

The Citizens were favourites to win it against the Italians and even though they looked shaky at first and lost star man Kevin De Bruyne to a first-half injury, they found a way to win.

World Cup winner Julian Alvarez was an unused substitute but it did not rob him of making history after his team prevailed.

According to Squawka, he is the first player to win the World Cup and the treble in the same season.

He replaced Lautaro Martinez in the starting 11 and was pivotal for Lionel Messi’s Argentina, scoring four goals to help La Albiceleste claim glory for the first time since 1986.

Pep Guardiola’s historic record

The Argentine was not the only one to make history last night. As reported by ESPN, Pep Guardiola also got himself into the books by being the first manager to win the treble with different teams.

The Spaniard led former club FC Barcelona to a sextuple in the 2008/09 season. His first top-flight managerial experience. He won 14 trophies in 4 years with the Blaugrana.

He now has 14 trophies for City and 34 major trophies in his managerial career which started in 2008. If he keeps up the pace, he will surpass the record of 49 by Sir Alex Ferguson.

City fan got treble tattoo

Sports Brief reported that a Man City fan got treble tattoo immediately after he landed in Istanbul for the final, with many concerned he could jinx it.

The victory last night meant the club repaid the faith the fan had in them and he avoided being used as a meme for ‘pictures that precede unfortunate moments’.

Adriano loses €2,000 bet

Sports Brief also reported that former Brazilian Adriano placed a bet on Inter to beat Manchester City and win their fourth Champions League.

He has now lost his €2,000 bet after his former team were beaten in 90 minutes and City have their first-ever UCL trophy.
