  • The English national team have been on the rise with the birth of new talents in their squad
  • The Three Lions came close to glory but missed out on penalties at the Euros to Italy
  • Jude Bellingham has spoken on his long-term goal with England's national team

The English National team have, in recent years, fallen just short of glory since the appointment of coach Gareth Southgate in 2016.

The 1966 FIFA World Cup winners were only good enough for fourth place at the 2018 edition of the tournament in Russia.

The 2020 UEFA Euro competition, with a significant portion held at the iconic Wembley Stadium, witnessed the Three Lions falling at the final hurdle to Italy in a dramatic penalty shootout.

Subsequent FIFA World Cup events in Qatar and the UEFA Nations League have seen the English side consistently falling short, frustratingly close to attaining their goals.

Nevertheless, the English national team continues to produce a stream of high-quality talent, fueling optimism that Southgate's side will clinch a major title soon.

Real Madrid midfielder, Jude Bellingham is one of those hopeful individuals and he reechoed this belief in a recent interview in which he touched on issues regarding the national team.

Bellingham on his national team ambition

The 20-year-old midfielder stated that he intends to try to win major tournaments with England for the next 10-15 years, believing the Three Lions should not shy away from aiming for the top.

Speaking to Reach Football, as quoted by Goal, Bellingham said:

"My goal for the next 12 months with the England team will be the same for the next 10-15 years: try to win major tournaments."

Further highlighting his team's chances, the Real Madrid man said:

"I think we can't shy away from saying that now. We've come close in the last few tournaments, and to now go back and say: 'Ah yeah, that was enjoyable, but now we have to be more realistic'."

Bellingham has made a sensational start to life at Real Madrid since his summer move from Borussia Dortmund, scoring 10 goals in his first 10 games, as reported by Whoscored. He will hope he can be highly instrumental in the Three Lions' chase for a title in next year's Euro tournament in Germany.

Bellingham clinches another award

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Jude Bellingham continues to silence his critics while consistently impressing fans in the heart of the Spanish capital.

The former Borussia Dortmund sensation, whose high-profile move from the German club was met with scepticism, has seamlessly integrated into the ranks of Los Blancos.

His string of explosive showings in the Spanish capital earned him both the La Liga Player of the Month and Real Madrid Player of the Month awards in his inaugural month at Los Blancos.
