  • Andre Onana was trending online after Manchester United’s second Champions League game
  • The Red Devils succumbed to a 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford in a game they were expected to win
  • A major talking point after the game was Onana’s role in some of the goals his side conceded

Andre Onana was on the spot once again as he produced a couple of howlers in Manchester United’s defeat to Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, October 4.

The Red Devils now have an uphill task if they are to proceed to the knockout stages after a second successive defeat in the group stages left the English club bottom of Group A.

In a highly engaging game, the home side had been a joy to watch going forward but were at times guilty of seemingly 'falling asleep' at the back, especially after going ahead.

Galatasaray pegged them twice, eventually making United’s lacklustre defending pay with a winner from Mauro Icardi with nine minutes of regular time remaining.

United initially took the head through their young striker, Rasmus Hojlund, who headed in an inviting cross from Marcus Rashford, as cited by Sky Sports.

Ex-Red Devil, Wilfried Zaha then came back to haunt his former side with an acrobatic finish moments later, outmuscling Diogo Dalot before firing a tricky shot past Onana.

United went ahead once again through Hojlund, who raced through on goal after Davinson Sanchez's slip.

But for the second time in the game, Galatasaray found a way back in moments later as Kerem Akturkoglu placed the ball in the net after some intricate play.

Onana suffers United 'horror show'

There was still time for more drama in the game after Akturkoglu‘s 71st-minute goal and it all had to do with United’s summer signing, Onana.

The Cameroon international’s poor pass prompted Casemiro to make a careless tackle in the box, prompting the referee to send the Brazilian off.

Icardi missed the resulting penalty but made amends moments later, with United’s defence caught napping again as the striker raced through on goal and easily beat Onana with a delicate chip.

From the first look at the Argentine's goal, it was easy to argue the United keeper could have done better, as he arguably had some time to make himself big, especially with three defenders bearing down on a solo Icardi.

After the game, Onana was brutally criticised on social media after the Red Devils suffered a second successive defeat in the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.

Fans react to Onana's dismal performance

Here are some reactions from fans:

@markgoldbridge said:

"Onana has fallen apart tonight....that's not even a lob. It's straight at him if he stands still."

@samuelluckhurst added:

"That is horrendous again from Onana. Not a convincing chip at all from Icardi but that was made easy for him."

@Bastors1_ joked:

"I speak for everyone when i say Onana is finished."

Did de Gea troll United on social media?

Sports Brief also reported on former Red Devils keeper, David de Gea possibly trolling Man United on social media after the UCL loss to Galatasaray.

The Spaniard's replacement, Onana had another dismal outing against the Turkish side and fans believe de Gea's post was a jab at his former side.

The Spanish goalkeeper, who is yet to find another club, uploaded a picture of what appeared to be him smiling alongside a group of friends.
