  • David de Gea shared a 'smiling' pic as Andre Onana put in another dismal performance
  • Onana was guilty of some questionable decisions as Manchester United fell to Galatasaray
  • The Red Devils declined to renew de Gea's contract and elected to move in for the former Ajax goalkeeper

Fans are convinced that David de Gea knew what he was doing after the former Manchester United goalkeeper shared a cryptic post on October 3.

The Instagram story went up after Manchester United were beaten 3-2 in the Champions League by Galatasaray at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag's side's woeful start to the season continued as they gifted the Turkish giants their first-ever win on English soil. A brace from Rasmus Hojlund was not enough to guarantee victory, with Galatasaray coming back from behind every time before Mauro Icardi atoned for a missed penalty to score the winner nine minutes from time.

Onana's mistakes against Galatasaray

The result was once again centered around Andre Onana's performance in goal, with the shot-stopper making a series of mistakes. The former Inter Milan goalkeeper played a short pass to Casemiro, forcing the Brazilian to make a hasty challenge, which resulted in his sending off.

He was afterwards chipped from way out by Icardi after he decided to go down earlier before the lobbed pass was played for Galatasaray's winner.

It has been a calamitous start to life in England for the Cameroon international, who has now conceded 18 goals in 10 games so far.

How David de Gea 'reacted'

His predecessor, De Gea, was booted out of the club by ten Hag despite winning the Golden Glove last season. The Spanish goalkeeper, who is yet to find another club, uploaded a picture of what appeared to be him smiling alongside a group of friends.

X users quickly jumped on the picture with @UTDDengv2 saying,

"That smile, he knows what he is doing,"

@dharnyyoung said:

"This is how you glow when you are far away from toxicity."

@mistaremi said:

"Man is trolling Man Utd."

Ten Hag defends Onana

Sports Brief has reported that Erik ten Hag has launched a passionate defence of Andre Onana in the wake of his costly mistakes in the Champions League.

Speaking after the match, the United boss appeared to absolve his goalkeeper from any blame, adding that he will continue to back him.
