Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro has revealed why Victor Osimhen's decision to stay at Napoli despite interest from other clubs is good for the Nigerian national team.
The Nigerian striker's performances for the Italian side last season caught the attention of many top clubs, with Chelsea being the favourites to sign him at some point.
The former Lille star opted to stay in Naples and has started the new season strongly under new manager Rudi Garcia.
Peseiro, during an interview with Gazzetta, claimed that Osimhen staying in Napoli and playing in the Champions League will aid his growth.
"At first he thought about leaving, but then he decided to stay and do his best in Napoli. And I’m happy to see him still competing for big goals in Europe," he said.
"But Victor is very happy in Napoli. For his growth path, staying in Europe and showing off in the Champions League remains the best way.
"He is young and has time to prove his talent."
The former Porto manager also spoke about Osimhen being linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League in the summer.
"Then I understand that in the face of certain offers, one can waver: two seasons in Arabia are worth more than ten in Europe, but money is not everything. Victor has improved a lot in Italy," he added.
Napoli will face Braga in their first UEFA Champions League group game on Wednesday, September 20.
