  • Ruben Loftus-Cheek moved to AC Milan in search of regular first-team football
  • The Chelsea academy graduate has been in and out of the team for many years
  • He is Milan's new midfield star after replacing Newcastle signee Sandro Tonali

It appears Chelsea's decision to offload many players last summer will come back to bite them, as some of these unwanted stars are excelling at their new clubs, particularly Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The midfielder was promoted to the Blues' first team from the academy in 2014 after impressing in the UEFA Youth League and was part of that title-winning squad in the 2014/15 season.

Loftus-Cheek was on course to break into the team permanently in the 2019/20 season under Maurizio Sarri, but he ruptured his Achilles tendon and was ruled out for 13 months.

He failed to regain his form and struggled under many managers before he was eventually sold to Serie A club, AC Milan for £15 million plus add-ons, as reported by The Athletic.

Milan stars against Loftus-Cheek's sub

The versatile midfielder has settled in well at San Siro. He impressed during the pre-season and even got a hat-trick against Tunisian side, Etoile Sportive du Sahel.

Loftus-Cheek also nailed down a spot in Stefan Pioli's midfield and efficiently replaced the departing Sandro Tonali, who joined Newcastle United in the Premier League for €70mil.

As picked up by DAZN cameras, the Englishman's influence in the team has grown such that his new teammates, Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez disagreed with their coach when he wanted to substitute Loftus-Cheek in the 65th minute of the 2-1 win over AS Roma.

The Italian boss responded that the midfielder was on a yellow card and he would not risk losing him minutes after fellow Chelsea academy graduate, Fikayo Tomori was sent off for a second bookable offence.

American winger, Christian Pulisic and French striker, Olivier Giroud are the other former Chelsea stars currently in the AC Milan squad.

Milan fans create chant for Pulisic

Meanwhile, Sports Brief reported on Milan fans chanting for Christian Pulisic after the player settled in nicely at the club and scored in his first two Serie A games.

The Curva Sud ultras of San Siro already have a chant for their new star, who admitted his main regret at Chelsea was not being a main man for the Londoners.
