  • AC Milan winger, Rafael Leao went viral for a hilarious gaffe during the Champions League match against Newcastle
  • Leao did brilliantly to beat several defenders but somehow fluffed his attempted shot
  • The game ended in a 0-0 stalemate as both teams settled for a point

Rafael Leao is responsible for one of the most comical moments in football this week after going from hero to zero during AC Milan's match against Newcastle United.

Milan welcomed The Magpies to Italy for the Group F opener as Eddie Howe’s side came back to Europe’s elite for the first time in 20 years.

Both teams cancelled each other out, but there were several chances in the game, with a notable one coming the way of Leao.

The 24-year-old made an excellent run with the ball into opposition territory and, after dribbling past three Newcastle players, only had the goalkeeper to beat.

According to The Guardian, instead of adjusting himself for a proper shot, Leao attempted a back-heel and failed miserably as the attack fizzled out.

The fluffed attempt at scoring led to mixed reactions on social media, with some fans accusing the winger of lacking passion for large parts of the game.

Leao’s skills on the ball are unquestionable, although there has been mild criticism over the Portugal international’s finishing at times.

However, stats on Transfermkt have shown that he has made a bright start to the season, with two goals and two assists in his opening five games for Milan.

One of the goals came in the derby against Inter and it proved to be a consolation as the Nerazzuri ran out comfortable 5-1 victors.

Lazio goalie scores last-minute equalizer

Sports Brief also reported on how Lazio goalkeeper, Ivan Provedel marked his Champions League debut by scoring a dramatic equaliser with a last-touch effort.

The Italian outfit was trailing Atletico Madrid with the game dying down, when they got a corner in the 95th minute.

Provedel rose highest to head in a Luis Alberto cross and send fans at the Stadio Olimpico into delirium.

The last time a goalkeeper found the net in the Champions League was in 2009, when Vincent Enyeama confidently converted a penalty for Hapoel Tel-Aviv against Lyon.
