FootballPep Guardiola Gives Worrying Bernardo Silva Injury Update, Claims Manchester City Are ‘In Trouble’
- Bernardo Silva suffered an injury in the match against Red Star Belgrade
- He is the latest Manchester City player to be sidelined because of injury
- Pep Guardiola said his side are 'in trouble' because of their growing injury list
The injury bug has struck Manchester City once again.
Bernardo Silva was forced off in the first half of the match against Red Star Belgrade due to a knock.
Pep Guardiola replaced the Portuguese star in the 44th minute, leading the Manchester City manager to claim after the match that his side are 'in trouble' because of the spate of injuries.
What happened to Bernardo?
Bernardo’s substitution at the stroke of half-time was a surprise, as there had been no indication of a knock before Jeremy Doku came in to replace him, per Manchester Evening News.
There was some confusion as to why he was substituted as he took a seat on Manchester City’s bench rather than heading straight to the locker room.
Guardiola offered clarity on the midfielder’s situation in a press conference after the match, saying that the 29-year-old will miss at least City’s next Premier League game against Nottingham Forest.
His availability for the crunch clash against Arsenal in the Premier League on October 8 is also in question, with Guardiola saying that Bernardo’s injury will keep him out for the next few weeks.
The City manager talked about his club’s predicament, saying:
"We are in trouble, but I am not going to say, 'Oh, we have a lot of injuries'. It is what it is."
Injuries pile up for City
That is a huge blow for the reigning Premier League champions, who have been ravaged by injuries to start the season.
Bernardo joins Jack Grealish, Mateo Kovacic, John Stones, and Kevin de Bruyne on the sidelines, per the BBC.
City’s depth is being tested, especially after a summer in which they sold stars Riyad Mahrez, Cole Palmer, and Aymeric Laporte.
