  • Jamal Musiala has named Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho as his two idols
  • Messi and Ronaldinho are regarded as Barcelona icons due to their achievements
  • Musiala has made a big impression for Bayern Munich and Germany

Jamal Musiala has caused a small stir in Germany after the Bayern Munich youngster revealed that Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho are his two idols, neglecting ex-German legends.

The 20-year-old German international made this revelation when he sat down with the Bavarian club’s media to discuss their favourite things in a promo video.

According to Sportskeeda, Musiala revealed his love for Barcelona icons Messi and Ronaldinho ahead of several other Bayern Munich and Germany greats due to their impact on football.

Both Messi and Ronaldinho are regarded as two of the best footballers to have ever played the sport, winning the UEFA Champions League and the World Cup in their careers.

Ronaldinho was also voted as the World’s Best Player twice in his illustrious career while Messi has won the coveted Ballon d’Or seven times and is on course to win a record eight after being nominated again for the 2023 edition.

Musiala hailed as next Messi

Meanwhile, Germany icon Lothar Matthaus believes that Musiala is the true heir to Lionel Messi’s throne due to the brilliance of the 20-year-old youngster, Bundesliga reports.

Matthaus, who is in awe of Musiala, claims the Germany international is doing the things that will make him a top footballer as he is clever with his thinking and he loves football.

Musiala is predominately right-footed but more than capable of using his left when needed, and the attacking midfielder prides himself on his powerful shot.

Musiala out of Germany friendlies

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Musiala will miss his side's upcoming friendlies with Japan and France due to a back injury, the German FA said on Thursday.

The statement said that Musiala "would not be available for selection in the upcoming games with Japan and France due to back pain", explaining "he didn't travel to the team hotel today as planned."

Musiala was selected in manager Hansi Flick's 24-man squad for September's friendlies despite a thigh injury, which kept him out of Bayern Munich's past two matches.
