Al Wahda of UAE coach Pitso Mosmane has narrated the origin of his nickname ‘Jingles’, following the passing of Kaizer Chiefs legend Jingles Pereira.

Pereira passed away on September 3, and Mosimane has opened up on how he inherited the name from the Portugal-born South African star.

During his active days, Pereira had a remarkable time with the Glamour Boys between 1979 and 1984 and was part of the squad that won a quadruple in 1981.

The original ‘Jingles’ won 10 ten titles with the Soweto outfit altogether and scored over 270 goals in his entire professional career before he retired.

Pitso wrote on Instagram.

“The first time I met Frank Jingles Pereira was in Russia at the World Cup in 2018. What an honour to have met the player who influenced me since my high school playing days.
“Sending my condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. May his would rest in peace”

TimesLive reported on how Pereira had earned the nickname after he superstitiously carried two coins in his back pocket on the football pitch.

It was gathered that while he ran, the sounds from the pocket were audible and Dr. Kaizer Motaung has since paid tribute to one of the club’s favourite sons via the Kaizer Chiefs website.

Pitso Mosimane speaks on reunion with Sirino

Sports Brief earlier reported that Mosimane reacted to the recent reports linking his club Al Wahda to Mamelodi Sundowns winger Gaston Sirino.

Mosimane, who signed Sirino for the Brazilians during his time at the club in 2018, was not happy with being asked about the rumours linking the Uruguayan-born South African player with his new club in the UAE Pro League.

The former Al Ahly coach was present at the handover of the multipurpose sports court at Lofentse Girls High School in Orlando East, Soweto. The project was officially named after him.
