Saudi club Al Ittihad are said to have offered a mammoth contract to Liverpool star Mohamed Salah in what could become a new African record transfer fee.

The Egyptian star has found himself the subject of serious speculation in recent weeks amid reports that he is wanted in the Saudi Pro League.

It was gathered that Al Ittihad initially valued the Egyptian at £60m, but since then, it has been raised to £100m, £121m and £150m.

Latest reports have it that the Arab outfit has now increased the offer to €200m (£171m), with Liverpool feeling they have no option but to accept the bid.

And here we look at the five most expensive African transfers ever

5. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Dortmund to Arsenal, 2018 – €63.8 million

After scoring 21 goals in 24 matches during the 2017/2018 season, Aubameyang became the most expensive African player when he moved to English club Arsenal.

Just after two years with the Gunners, the Gabonese led the club to winning their 14th FA Cup title, scoring twice in their win over Chelsea.

4. Cedric Bakambu

Villarreal to Beijing Guoan, 2018 – €65 million

In 2018, DR Condo’s Cedric Bakambu left Villarreal to join the Chinese outfit Beijing Guoan, becoming one of the most expensive African players of all time.

3. Riyad Mahrez

Leicester City to Man City, 2018 – €67.8 million

Algerian international Riyad Mahrez left Leicester City to join Etihad Stadium outfit Manchester City for a club-record fee of €67.8m in July 2018.

The amount is one of the highest in the transfer of African players, Goalballive reports.

Pep Guardiola lured the talented winger to his side because of his playmaking ability.

2. Victor Osimhen

Lille to Napoli, 2020 – €70 million

After a remarkable performance for Lille in the French Ligue 1 in 2020, Osimhen moved to Italian club Napoli on a staggering deal.

The striker became one of the most expensive players to ever come out of Africa with a transfer fee of €70 million.

Last season, he helped the Partenopei to the Serie A title, with 26 goals in 33 matches.

1. Nicolas Pepe

Lille to Arsenal, 2019 – €80 million

Since Pepe’s move to Arsenal in 2019, he remains the most expensive African player.

The Ivorian international had a good season at French club Lille, scoring 22 goals and double-digit assists to catch the eyes of the Arsenal hierarchy.

He has been unable to replicate his top form at the London club as Arsenal consider a termination of his contract.

Salah spotted in London

Sports Brief earlier reported that Liverpool winger, Mohamed Salah was spotted spending time at a museum in London.

His latest social media post suggests he has decided to stay despite interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia.

The 31-year-old has been linked with a move to Al-Ittihad, where he could reunite with ex-Liverpool teammate Fabinho.
