  • Barcelona are looking to end the summer transfer window on a positive note
  • They have signed three first-team players this summer but have not landed a marquee signing
  • They have been strongly linked with Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo

It has been a relatively quiet summer transfer window for Barcelona, and that is due to their precarious financial situation.

They have not made any major signings apart from signing Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer. They have parted ways with Ousmane Dembele, who joined Paris Saint-Germain and will need to strengthen significantly before the window closes.

So far, Xavi Hernandez's side have signed Oriol Romeu, Gundogan and Inigo Martinez. All three are in their 30s and are the only first-team players the club has signed.

There have been quite a few outgoings, and Dembele is their biggest sale this summer. The French international joined the Ligue 1 champions earlier this month for €50.4 million.

Sergino Dest joined PSV on loan, Franck Kessie moved to Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia, and Nico Gonzalez joined FC Porto.

Barcelona are looking to complete a few signings on deadline day as well as ship some players permanently or on loan. Here are the major talking points for Barcelona on deadline day.

Barcelona deadline day transfers

Ansu Fati - Brighton- Loan transfer

Fati was one of the most exciting prospects in football a few years ago, but injuries have hindered his progress. He didn't start a lot of matches last season, and Xavi has yet to give him a starting spot this season, a development that may have convinced him to seek regular first-team football elsewhere.

Several clubs were in contention for his signature, but Brighton won the race, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. The English club is set to sign the 20-year-old on loan to beef up their squad since they will be playing European football this season.

Clement Lenglet - Loan transfer

Aston Villa are closing in on Lenglet as a replacement for Tyrone Mings. The French defender spent last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, and it seems he is not in Xavi's plans.

He has been with Barcelona since 2018, and his deal with the team ends in 2026.

Abde Ezzalzouli

After impressing on loan at Osasuna last season, Abde has returned to Barcelona with a point to prove. He has played 66 minutes this season for the Blaugrana, but rumours of an exit have intensified, especially in the last few days.

Osasuna, Real Betis and Sevilla are reportedly interested in signing the winger. Saudi Arabian clubs have also been linked with the exciting forward. According to Romano, Barcelona want to keep Abde, but anything could happen on deadline day.

Joao Cancelo

It has been a difficult few months for Cancelo. He was shipped by Manchester City to Bayern Munich in January and is now looking for a club since it appears he is no longer in Pep Guardiola's plans. He has been strongly linked with Barcelona all summer long, but a deal is yet to materialize.

However, reports are emerging that the two clubs could agree on a deal that would send the right-back to Spain. Man City reportedly want Barcelona to pay all of Cancelo's salary. According to Barca Universal, the Portuguese defender is ready to take a pay cut to join the club.

A loan deal is likely, according to multiple reports in Spain.

Joao Felix

Joao Felix's spell with Atletico Madrid is turning into a nightmare. He doesn't seem to be in the club's plans and has been linked with a move to Barcelona all summer. The Portuguese youngster has not hidden his desire to play for Barcelona, but before a deal materializes, a lot needs to happen.

However, with Ansu Fati's imminent departure and Abde linked with a move away, an opportunity to sign Felix is there. Barca Universal reports that the two clubs are in talks over a potential transfer. Atletico are looking for a loan fee of €8 million and wants the Catalans to cover Felix’s full salary.

Brighton close to signing Ansu Fati

Sports Brief earlier reported that Brighton were closing in on a deal to sign Barcelona wonder kid Ansu Fati.

A deal is reportedly already in place between Barcelona and Brighton, and a verbal agreement with Fati is now done.

Fabrizio Romano added that there is a ''no buy option clause'' in the loan deal, which will run until June 2024. Also, the main part of Fati’s salary is covered by Brighton.
