Barcelona goalkeeper, Marc Andre Ter Stegen, has witnessed a resurgence in form following his recovery from a thigh injury that kept him out for most of the 2020/21 season.

The 31-year-old German international came under intense scrutiny following a string of poor performances prior to the Covid-19 pandemic and even saw his spot in the first-team fold come under threat from both Neto Murara and Jasper Cilessen.

However, an outstanding 2022/23 La Liga campaign, which saw him equal the record for the most clean sheets in a Spanish league season of 26, was enough to silence his doubters, per Diario AS.

Ter Stegen’s performance further saw him rewarded with a new contract by Barca. However, despite his record-setting campaign, the wage structure of the goalkeeper’s new contract has raised a few eyebrows.

Ter Stegen’s new contract revealed

With Barcelona keen on the reduction of their wage structure in line as they struggle to balance the books with Financial Fair Play rules, the German was also given a reduced wage.

According to a report by 90min, Ter Stegen’s weekly wage is now said to be just over ₤120,000, which translates to ₤6.3 million annually.

The goalkeeper, who was earning ₤173,000 a week and ₤9mil annually on his previous contract, has now been demoted on the list of the club’s highest earners.

The German currently sits at 14th on the club’s highest-earning list, with Pablo Gavi and summer arrival, Inigo Martinez, all earning more than the shot-stopper.

Ter Stegen is also earning around ₤31mil less than the club’s highest earner, midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who currently earns ₤37,500,000 annually.

Barcelona president provides update on Felix

In another report, Sports Brief stated that Joan Laporta, Barcelona’s president has provided an update on the transfer of Atletico Madrid wantaway, Joao Felix.

Responding to questions from the media about the club's pursuit of the forward, the 61-year-old La Blaugrana boss said the club's sporting director was 'handling it'.
